AJ Dillon
AJ Dillon Expected to split work in 2022
Fri, May 6, 2022, 11:30 AM
Dillon (ribs) and Aaron Jones could split the work "50-50" in the Packers' backfield in 2022, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic suggests.
Analysis: Jones played 52 percent of the snaps to Dillon's 43 percent in 2021, but with Dillon ascending, Schneidman believes those numbers will be even closer in the season ahead. Dillon's 2021 campaign was cut a couple quarters short by a broken rib, but no issues have been reported since, so he should be ready to go when the Packers begin offseason team activities later this month.
Dominique Dafney
Dominique Dafney Reups with Green Bay
Mon, Apr 18, 2022, 7:03 PM
Dafney signed a one-year contract with the Packers on Monday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Dafney played in 10 games for Green Bay last season, recording two catches on four targets for 34 yards. The two-year pro also chipped in on 104 special-teams snaps. Dafney currently is No. 5 on the Packers' tight end positional depth chart, so he's got work to do if he hopes to earn an expanded role next season.
Sammy Watkins
Sammy Watkins Lands with Green Bay
Thu, Apr 14, 2022, 1:21 PM
The Packers and Watkins agreed to terms on a one-year contract Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: After visiting Green Bay earlier Thursday, Watkins will join the fifth organization of his career. The eight-year pro doesn't turn 29 until June, but he's also missed multiple games in all but two seasons so far. In his most recent stop in Baltimore last year, Watkins hauled in 27 of 49 passes for 394 yards and one touchdown in 13 appearances. With the Packers, he'll join a receiving corps in dire need of a boost after the team dealt Davante Adams to the Raiders and Marquez Valdes-Scantling moved on to the Chiefs this offseason.
Robert Tonyan
Robert Tonyan Ahead of schedule in recovery
Thu, Mar 31, 2022, 10:46 AM
The Packers consider Tonyan (knee) to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from a left ACL tear, Zach Kruse of USA Today reports.
Analysis: General manager Brian Gutekunst said the team doesn't "have a real timetable" on Tonyan's recovery, but it appears that the top tight end could have a shot to retake the field early in the 2022 campaign, potentially even by Week 1. Tonyan re-signed with the Packers on a one-year contract mid-March, just following the team's trade of Davante Adams to the Raiders. Considering the void left by Adams on offense, Tonyan figures to handle a key role in the passing game even if Green Bay makes notable additions to the wide receiver room as the offseason continues.
Robert Tonyan
Robert Tonyan Returns to Green Bay
Sat, Mar 19, 2022, 5:32 PM
The Packers and Tonyan (knee) agreed to a one-year contract Saturday, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Since Green Bay sent Davante Adams to the Raiders on Thursday, the team has used the open cap space to bring back two of its own from last season (Tonyan and cornerback Rasul Douglas) and an outsider (punter Pat O'Donnell, formerly of the Bears). Tonyan is in the midst of his recovery from a torn ACL that he suffered Week 8, meaning his status will be one to watch as the offseason goes on. Considering the timeline for such recoveries, he could be ready for Week 1 of the upcoming campaign. If not, though, the Packers will continue to lean on Josiah Deguara, Marcedes Lewis, Tyler Davis and Dominique Dafney at tight end.
Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers Down top target after Adams trade
Thu, Mar 17, 2022, 7:09 PM
Rodgers lost top target Davante Adams on Thursday when the Packers agreed to trade the wide receiver to the Raiders, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: After one domino fell in Green Bay last week when Rodgers agreed to return for an 18th season, the team proceeded to place the franchise tag on Adams. The wide receiver informed the Packers that he wouldn't play under the tag, and even as Rodgers negotiated and signed a four-year extension he was made aware that his employers were exploring trades for Adams, per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. With Adams out the door, the team now is in the market for additions to the receiving corps with just Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb the known entities at the position.
Malik Taylor
Malik Taylor Tendered by Packers
Thu, Mar 17, 2022, 5:18 PM
The Packers tendered Taylor as an exclusive rights free agent Wednesday, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Taylor finished the 2021 campaign on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury, but he should be healthy heading into offseason activities. He made 10 appearances for Green Bay last year but didn't have a significant role in the passing game, as he hauled in just two of three targets for 14 yards.
Randall Cobb
Randall Cobb Reduces cap hit for 2022
Wed, Mar 16, 2022, 7:52 PM
The Packers and Cobb agreed to a restructure of his contract Wednesday, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The status of Cobb likely was tied to Aaron Rodgers' decision, and once the latter opted to return and signed an extension, some maneuvering was required to get the Packers below the salary cap. According to Silverstein, Cobb's salary has been reduced from $8.5 million to $3 million for the upcoming season. Now that he's sticking in Green Bay for a 10th campaign, Cobb will look to build upon the 28-375-5 line he put together on 39 targets across 12 games in 2021.
Allen Lazard
Allen Lazard Gets second-round tender
Tue, Mar 15, 2022, 10:12 AM
Lazard, a restricted free agent, is getting a second-round tender from the Packers, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Lazard made some noise late last season and ultimately finished with career highs for catches (40), receiving yards (513) and touchdowns (eight), but there's no way any team will give up a second-round pick for the right to sign him. He thus figures to stay in Green Bay, while Marquez Valdes-Scantling faces an uncertain future as an unrestricted free agent. That doesn't mean Lazard will be handed the No. 2 receiver job, but it's well within the range of possible outcomes for his Week 1 role. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is officially signed, while top wideout Davante Adams has four months to work out a multi-year contract before the July 15 deadline for franchise-tagged players.

Aaron Rodgers Finalizes extension
Tue, Mar 15, 2022, 7:55 AM
Rodgers signed a four-year extension with the Packers on Tuesday, though the deal includes two "dummy" years, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: It took one week to finalize a contract after Rodgers confirmed last Tuesday he'd return to the Packers for 2022. His new deal includes $150.6 million guaranteed, and while it may be more akin to a two-year extension for practical purposes, this at least suggests Rodgers plans to stay in Green Bay through 2023 or 2024. The team can now focus on star wideout Davante Adams, who reportedly informed the Packers that he won't play out the 2022 season under a franchise tag (the two sides have until July 15 to negotiate a multi-year contract).
Davante Adams
Davante Adams Tells team he won't play under tag
Mon, Mar 14, 2022, 8:38 AM
Adams has informed the Packers he won't play on the franchise tag, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The Packers tagged Adams last week, as expected, keeping the star wideout under team control alongside QB Aaron Rodgers. The team has a difficult cap situation and apparently hasn't made much early progress in long-term discussions with Adams, but the two sides still have four months to reach an agreement before the July 15 extension deadline for franchise-tagged players.

Aaron Rodgers Deal in the works
Tue, Mar 8, 2022, 5:22 PM
The Packers and Rodgers are working out a new deal that will keep him with the team in 2022, while lowering the QB's salary cap hit for the coming season in the process, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Though Rodgers confirmed Tuesday that he will indeed play for Green Bay in 2022, he indicated that a new contract has yet to be finalized. Moreover, Rodgers suggested that a previous report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network outlining the terms of the looming agreement weren't accurate. In any case, the star signal-caller will be back for another season with the team that drafted him in 2004. Rodgers will also be in line to continue throwing to his favorite target in Davante Adams, who received the team's franchise tag Tuesday.
Davante Adams
Davante Adams Gets franchise tag, as expected
Tue, Mar 8, 2022, 2:22 PM
The Packers placed the franchise tag on Adams on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Green Bay now has clarified two of its biggest question marks of the offseason in the matter of hours, keeping Adams in the fold following Aaron Rodgers' decision to return for an 18th season. Adams has strung together six consecutive campaigns with at least 117 targets, a stretch in which he's averaged a 97-1,199-11.5 line per season. Now, the Packers and his representatives will attempt to work out a long-term extension to avoid being on the hook for the $18.4 million franchise tender in 2022.

Aaron Rodgers Confirms return to Green Bay
Tue, Mar 8, 2022, 2:03 PM
Rodgers confirmed Tuesday via his personal Twitter account that he's returning to the Packers for the 2022 season.
Analysis: Having said that, Rodgers refuted a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network that he agreed to a four-year, $200 million extension. In any case, Rodgers is back in the saddle with the Packers and is expected to be joined by his favorite target Davante Adams, who is slated to receive the franchise tag from the team by Tuesday's 4:00 p.m. ET deadline. Coming off back-to-back MVP campaigns, Rodgers is set up to remain productive as he enters his age-39 season.
Jordan Love
Jordan Love Set for backup duties again
Tue, Mar 8, 2022, 10:53 AM
Love's tentative path to the starting role with Green Bay in 2022 vanished Tuesday, after incumbent Aaron Rodgers agreed to terms on a four-year, $200 million contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Love's prospects for Year 3 in Green Bay hinged entirely on Rodgers' decision, and with the back-to-back MVP now sticking around for the foreseeable future, the 2020 first-round pick's best case scenario with the team that drafted him appears to be No. 2 duties yet again. On the other hand, the Packers still have significant salary cap issues to address, and Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Love could now be a legitimate trade option. Being dealt to a quarterback-needy team such as the Broncos or Panthers would certainly be the best outcome for the 23-year-old's fantasy prospects at the moment, and it's admittedly rare for a signal-caller drafted in the first round to never enter a season as the starter. That said, it remains to be seen whether front offices around the league are willing to exchange significant capital for the talented, but unproven Love.

Aaron Rodgers Stays in Green Bay on massive deal
Tue, Mar 8, 2022, 10:35 AM
Rodgers agreed to terms Tuesday with the Packers on a four-year, $200 million contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The deal includes $153 million guaranteed, making Rodgers the highest-paid player in NFL history, per Rapoport. After a drama-filled offseason in 2021, Rodgers agreed to rework his contract last summer under the condition that the team would revisit his status heading into 2022. Rodgers, who claimed his second straight NFL MVP award last season before the Packers fell to the 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs, reportedly considered retirement earlier this offseason in addition to evaluating his options with other teams, but he ultimately concluded sticking around in Green Bay was in his best interest. Now that he's agreed to a lavish new contract with the Packers, the organization can turn its focus to addressing other areas of the roster ahead of the 2022 season. With Rodgers running it back with Green Bay, top wideout Davante Adams now looks all but guaranteed to receive the team's franchise tag ahead of Tuesday's deadline, though the tag may just serve as a placeholder until a longer-term extension is reached. On the other hand, 2020 first-round pick Jordan Love's future on the roster could be less certain.

Aaron Rodgers Long-term deal reportedly offered
Mon, Mar 7, 2022, 11:04 AM
The Packers have reportedly offered Rodgers a long-term deal that would alter the QB market, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Aside from solidifying the team's signal-caller situation, such a contract structure -- possibly in the three- or four-year range -- could bolster the Packers' salary-cap situation, a context that would help the franchise retain a solid supporting cast around Rodgers. The report suggests that at this stage the QB continues to weigh his options, with his decision expected to arrive soon. Per Fowler, if things move in a direction in which Rodgers indicates that he wants out of Green Bay, the Broncos -- who hired former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett as their new head coach this offseason -- are viewed as a possible contender to make a play to add the 38-year-old, who is coming off an MVP season in 2021.

Aaron Rodgers Nothing new on decision
Sat, Mar 5, 2022, 11:42 AM
The Packers have not engaged with other teams regarding potential trades for Rodgers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: In what appears to be the latest chapter of the Rodgers saga, conflicting reports surfaced late Friday evening and into Saturday morning that the four-time MVP was truly torn on whether or not he'd want to return to the Packers, and that teams were lining up to acquire the superstar QB. That evidently is not the case according to Schefter and the report was also backed up by Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. There's still optimism from Green Bay's front office Rodgers will eventually make his decision before the new league year begins March 16, but it seems fair to assume should the 39-year-old opt to cut ties with the only franchise he's ever been apart of, numerous teams will be eager to bid for his services.

Aaron Rodgers Decision hoped for by March 16
Tue, Mar 1, 2022, 1:42 PM
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said Tuesday that there are "no new updates" regarding Rodgers' situation, but he hopes to have an update by the new league year March 16, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported earlier Tuesday that the two sides are in negotiations for what is expected to be a short-term contract that would make Rodgers the highest-paid player in the NFL. Despite rumors that the 38-year-old may consider requesting a trade or could be on the trading block, Gutekunst relayed that "not one" general manager has reached out to him asking about Rodgers' availability. However, there is still some speculation as to whether or not the back-to-back MVP winner will even play football next season. Either way, it sounds like the Packers hope that Rodgers will make a decision before long, with the hope that it'll jumpstart their offseason plans.
Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers Reportedly in contract talks
Tue, Mar 1, 2022, 1:04 PM
Rodgers and the Packers are in negotiations for what is expected to be a short-term contract if the star quarterback decides to remain with the team. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Per Rapoport, if such a deal transpires, it would make the QB the highest-paid player in the NFL. While the report is encouraging from Green Bay's perspective, any potential agreement hinges on Rodgers committing to remain with the franchise that drafted back him in 2004. Until that occurs, it remains possible that the 38-year-old could consider retirement or request a trade, but at this stage Rapoport suggests that things appear to be heading in a good direction with regard to the chances of an agreement occurring between the two sides.
